BF Goodrich "Long Trail T/A"
Submitted by 1986RangerBoy
So far I've had these tires for a couple
years now, and I have been satisfied with them. They are cheap, look
good and from what I've seen are excellent (for my truck) off road and
on a farm after a rain storm when the fields are all mud.

BRIDGESTONE "DUELER REVO A/T"

This tire is very quiet on road and very
surprising off road. As long as you can keep the tires spinning and
cleaning, they will do very well in everything from dirt, mud, sand,
and snow. I've had them on for 20,000 miles and they show almost no
signs of wear. Bottom line: arguably the best all-terrain tire out
there.

CONTINENTAL "CONTI-TRAC"
Submitted byBen Hart
This is a Highway Treaded tire. It came
stock on my 2005 Ford Ranger. I have heard lots of problems from
people in regards to balancing them and poor tread life. For me I have
had no issues at all. I like them and am impressed with what they do
especially since they are an economy tire. I would compare them to the
classic BFG Radial T/A. Although the BFG is better hands down, the
Continental is comparable and much cheaper. On the road they are
perfect, on snow and ice the do well. I do like them!

COOPER "DISCOVERER H/T"

This is a Highway Treaded tire. It lasted
me a good 60,000 miles and was a great all around tire. I have 3.73
gears and the tire size was a 225/75/15. Gave me a consistent 20mpg
highway. Offroad it was lacking, but it did fine in light use
situations. This tire also gave good traction in both wet and dry road
conditions. Also one of the cheapest in price!

Off road they get excellent traction on nearly everything; however, they get a little
clogged in snow but not bad. On road there is a slight hum, but bearable, with
excellent wear. I have 15000 on mine at 1.5 years and they still look new. They are a
clone of of Firestone Destination tires.

DISCOUNT TIRE "DOMINATOR TRUCK RADIAL

Submitted by Totalled
They are excellent on the road. Quiet, good wet and dry traction with a stock small
V6 driving them. They have worn well. I bought them 11/01, and I have 34,112 miles on
them. I would say they have 1/3-1/2 tread left on them. They have a 45,000mi tread
warranty. For what they are, they do beyond what you would expect off road. They do
awesome in snow. They took me up to the top of Capitol Peak with open diffs in snow
deep enough that my diffs were leaving ruts. In clay, they turn into chocolate donuts,
but have took me through whatever I threw at them. At the beach, they did great in the
little bit of sand I drove through. At Tahuya this July, I had the least aggressive
tires, and went everywhere the group did that I could clearance wise, and only had
trouble in a couple spots that was solved by backing up and hitting it
harder.

DISCOUNT TIRE "PATHFINDER ATR"
Submitted by Manimal
These tires are a clone of BFG's All-Terrain, and are nearly identical in every
respect. Despite the small size of the tires, they have never once bogged
down in anything (mud, dirt, rocks, sand). No matter what, they seem to grip pretty
damn well. Handling on dry roads is good. Unfortunately, they don't grip very well
on wet pavement. They were cheap, and have done much more than I would have expected
them to do when I bought them. I intended to use them for "light off road
use," but they've taken everything I've thrown at them. I just wish I bought
them in a bigger size!

Call this a compare/contrast of the finer points between the Pathfinder ATR and
BFG AT, both of which I've really enjoyed. I purchased ATRs new for one B2, and the
BFGs came used on another B2. My extended "family" and I have 6 Bronco IIs
between us, so we get to try a number of different things. The BFGs were the older
non-KO style. We wanted LT rated tires, but I don't think they were available in that
size. I'm not sure if they are now, but the P rated tires have held up pretty well. I
think we've popped one in the last 45k miles, with frequent hiking and wheeling use.
I've found them to do well in snow as well. However, I would expect something like a
Goodyear MTR to get a 5, so I would give it something like 3.5. The ATR grip and ride
is good, but it's scary to wheel with P rated tires. The BFGs I would give a 4 or maybe
4.2? They grabbed a lot more ground, that's for sure. They were also durable as heck. I
really beat on them in rocks and such, and was able to support the weight of the truck
and climb ledges just with the sidewall. There were some minor issues on the BFG with
gravel retention, but that has supposedly been fixed in the newer KO edition ATs. If
you do *some* off-roading, you won't be disappointed with the Pathfinder ATR. If you go
off-road with some frequency or severity, you will be happier with the BFG AT.
Actually, I thought they did fine on wet pavement. Both the ATR and BFG had good
resistance to hydroplaning and road quietly. I'd give the BFG a 3.8, but I think 4 or
4.2 would be good for the ATR. Most magazines would give it a 5. I'll give the ATR a
4.6 and BFG 4.8, because I prefer to wheel a bit harder now than I did when the ATRs
were purchased. Like I said, we popped an ATR on a logging road with sort of sharp
gravel. With the BFGs, I wheeled every day for about 3 months in a gravel quarry and
never had a problem. It was so relaxing to not expect the tires to blow out. Over the
long term, the ATRs have aged much better. They have a lot of miles on them and are
still doing great. When the BFGs got closer to the wear bars the outer rubber cracked
and the different layers started to delaminate. As such, the ATRs are still on and the
BFGs were tossed into the CORE tire pit a couple years ago. I would still buy another
pair of either one.

These tires ride really smooth. They have a little bit of a hum on road, but it's not
really noticeable enough to be bothersome. I have only gotten stuck once. Aired down
these tires seem un-stoppable and they have only lost traction in sand and in REALLY
sticky mud. I have been so happy with these tires; I love them. The aggressive lug
pattern also looks really nice.

KUMHO "ROAD VENTURE M/T"
Submitted by Ben Hart
I had A/T style tires
from the same manufacturer previously, and loved them a lot, but wanted something that
wouldn't gum up in the mud. These tires are an excellent choice. They probably aren't
the best tire for mud, but they are great, and make up for the shortcomings of other
mud tires. The centre treads are a little closer together than on other mud tires to
give better traction in snow, and a slightly quieter ride on the highway. On the
highway they do exhibit some noise, but are not as bad as one would think. They handle
good in the rain, and are just fine on dry asphalt. One note though, is that rock
crawling really eats up the thinner side wall, as I have found. So far I have been
extremely happy with them, and the price was unbeatable for a comparable
M/T.

LES SCHWAB "WILD COUNTRY RADIAL
RVT"
Submitted by nwbabybronco
This tire is the cheapest all-terrain light truck tire Les Schwab has offered, and is
probably the most popular tire out of the Wild Country line, which I think is the most
popular line of tire in the US. The ride is OK, and the tread is quiet. Wet weather,
especially really wet weather, sucks. These tires don't grip worth a damn and will
hydroplane on any standing water. Wear is average or above. There is no grip and no
durability in this tire. I think they had LT and P rated versions, and I've used both.
The P rated we popped at least 3 in one year with less frequent and less severe
off-road use than any other tire I've had. Currently my friend is using 33x12.50s,
which came with the rig, and they suck. Even with a rear locker and front limited slip,
it has trouble in 4wd doing what any of our stock BIIs will do in 2wd. It's really
disgusting. They clog faster than any tire I've ever seen and have no ability to
self-clean. I'm pretty sure these tires have been discontinued, but there are still a
ton of them around. Run away fast from these tires. If you want to buy a rig with those
tires, budget new tires into the purchase price if you ever want to leave dry
pavement.

My mom and I have run from 205/75r15 to
30x9.5 on about 7 different trucks/suvs. no problems on the street,
nice and quiet. get decent traction off road, just don't try to go
through some gumbo mud. they don't cost much and last quite a while.
one drawback is that they throw a lot of rocks for an all-terrain.

I've had them about a year (31s). I am
real pleased with them. They seem to be very tough. The've held up
well for me at low pressure on sharp rocks. Its at home in pretty much
any terrain, except ice, but it is pinned for studs. They aren't loud.
The only weakness is in the rain as is common with mud terrains. They
are better on the road than my cheap radial. So basically its a very
tough all around tire.

MICKEY THOMPSON "BAJA BELTED"
Submitted by BroncoHog
I've been running these for about a year
or so now, and it's time for replacement. They track funny on the
road, requiring constant correction, etc. They do poorly in snow, they
do well in rain. Off road, I have no complaints. They are no Bogger,
but they'll sling their share of mud, while in loose dirt they are
akin to an A/T, and do very well. Off road is where the M/T's shine.
Bad tire for a daily rig. And the tread life is very low; I've been
running them for around a year, and 2 of them are trashed, and the
other 2 are close enough to being trashed.

Have had these tires for about a year now and
I am loving them, great look very aggressive with nice big lugs that
love to throw the mud in the off road situation, minimal on road
noise, hard rubber compound for long life time on our small trucks,
they were a bit on the pricey side I think at $300can each, but
compared to the Mickey baja claw that looks almost identical priced
nicely. The only beef I have is icy city roads when the snow covers
its good but ice forget it, but then again what really dose great on
ice. I am very pleased over all.

well in clay. They grab everything, even at on road pressure. I got used to the
vibration and noise. There is no substitute (other than mud boggers) when you're off

I think that these are simply the best radial mud tire you can buy. I have had mine on
my truck for at least 30k road miles. Tread wear is simply amazing. They have a low hum
on the road - more like an AT than something with the big lugs that my tires had. I
never got stuck because of my tires getting clogged or wouldn't stick to what I
was throwing at them. I was worried about killing a sidewall, but it never happened.
I'd prefer something with some sidewall protection, or side lugs that would wrap around
the tire more. I lost a bead at 18 psi because of the tire/rim combo, but the sidewalls
don't like to flex at all. I'd suggest them for anyone that has a dual use rig without
question at all

SUPER SWAMPER "TSL"

There is minimal buzz on the highway, and due to the small size of my tires they don't
stick out of the sides any. As for a smooth ride, I think they're nice. Excellent
pavement handling. I think it'd be near impossible to hydroplane. They don't wear very
fast either; If you can't get at least 20k you must be rock-crawling on Lava rock, or
going out of your way to "chirp" the tires. The tread is positioned in such a
way that whatever it's biting into will get thrown out as the tire rotates; & the
side-tread is great as well (not too much on the actual side walls) but the Lugs Hang
over the sides enough that if you wear the top of the tire bald it'd still tear through
a mud hole! (I've taken' mine through Mud, gravel, sand, some rocks, & thick blue
clay, and the TSL's have proved triumphant through it all.

UNIROYAL "RALLYE M+S"

I can't believe how well they've done. I've run these tires on rocky dirt roads, in the
sand and slick rock of Moab, and the mud of the northwest. The only time I ever got
stuck with these tires was when I dropped into a quicksand hole up to the frame in
Moab. I don't think any tires would have saved me from that. For an all-terrain tire,
these self-clean remarkably well. I helped wear in the obstacle course for the CORE
competition, which was about 50% deep puddles in a mud field, and was the only person
never to get stuck. I didn't push my luck as much as some people with Swampers and
such, but still, I didn't get stuck. Originally these tires were studded, and were run
that way at CORE and in Moab. Eventually I pried all the worn out studs and have run it
for more than a year now, including snow and ice, with no disappointments. With the
studs these tires kicked butt in the frozen stuff. No damaged tires yet, but I have
lost air before when dirt got in the beads. These tires do great on road. Other than
some persistent slow leaks (crud in bead, normal for many tires), they have done
brilliantly. Acceleration and braking in wet conditions is fine, and they have yet to
do any noticeable hydroplaning. Anybody who has driven the Puget Sound freeways knows
that is a very good thing. If I get on it going around sharp wet corners I can get the
back end to break loose, but they regain traction and settle into the correct direction
easily. The tires are quiet and wear well. A great all-terrain tire that actually does
well in all terrains, instead of sucking equally bad in all terrains. These could
probably be ordered at Discount Tire, but they were purchased at
Costco.
