Going through the books as I do, I found a easy swap for a higher output alternator. Stock alt for a 87 2.9 is NAPA RAY 213-3040 it is a 60 amp alt. Price is $90.99.

High output alt is the same case and puts out 80 amps it is for a escort 87 - 90.
NAPA part number RAY 213 - 3059b 80 amps for $94.99.

For the 2.8 club, the stock alt is 45 amp NAPA # RAY 213 - 3009.
An easy swap is RAY 213 - 3029 at 65 amps.
