i took a chev half-ton 4wd frame, and shortened 41" out of it, welded up my own body mount brackets, bought a 1988 bronco ii body from a junkyard, and i just got back my engine parts from the machine shop. vortec heads, .030 over block, 12:1 compression, with comp cams 510 lift 246@.050 cam. (pics of that soon to come)

here is a couple pics from setting the body on the frame: (i'll post up more pics later)

i needed to put an 18" section of straight channel to replace a slanted section:

here it is all painted up:
you'll see the rear pedestals i built to accomodate the rear body mounts of the bii body and the mid-section body-mount brackets i welded on as well:

we had no other way of lifting the body off of the trailer and on to the frame, so we used 2 10' long 4"x4"s with 2x4's between them (to keep them from squeezing together as we lifted) with tow-straps strung between them, and we used 2 cherry-pickers to lift it:

and here we are setting it on to the frame:

mor pics and progress reports as i go

i mostly have been working on my engine the last couple days, since the truck is red, i opted for red engine paint.

how it currently sits:

my box O'goodies:

here is my newly machined block:

new cam bearings:

my hypereutectic pistons snd you can see where the rods were machined to be balanced:

pistons installed:

long block:

with intake manifold:

how i had to cut the floor to clear the new shifters:

i will rivet an aluminum plate with new shift-boots over that big gaping hole, i just need to go buy it

a ford vs. chevy debate will be axed, without warning, by me   this is a construction thread, not a debate thread.

that being said, i love the build!  glad you got some pics up, i was really wanting to see this one.  a lot of people talk about a frame swap, few actually do it.

thanks,

i didn't get much accomplished today, i woke up to snow    and my garage has a 7 1/2' ceiling.......this won't fit. i am trying to locate accessories (ie p.s. pump, alternator, pullies, and bracketry to mount them) so that i can mount them before i drop the motor in. once the motor is in i need to:

1, use u-joints to route the steering shaft around the exhaust (the bii steering box is inside the frame rail, and the chevy's is outside, not to mention the new frame is 2" wider)

2, adapt the new radiator in

3, re-wire the whole truck, (the junkyard was waaaaay to liberal with the wire cutters)

4, mount the plate with the new shift-boots

5, make a new dash-panel with new guage cluster

6, figure out how to adapt a slave-cylinder to a non-hydraulic clutch arm

7, a whole bunch of other stuff

so i fixed the huge gaping hole in my floor with the new shifters

a piece of 1/8" aluminum with a couple of autozone aftermarket shift-boots

with it sitting in the car

i also fit in the new radiator, i took some channel, and glued in some rubber that goes on the bottom of a garage door:

i welded to pieces to the bottom of the core support, and then welded the bottom channel to those pieces

and put the piece along the top of the radiator, and attatched it

motor will be going in soon

question: how can you use hockey pucks on a chevy bronco II?

answer: like this:

the only body mounting that i hadn't done was the core-support. so here's how i did it, i got a couple hockey pucks from the local sporting goods store:

i made 2 90 degree pieces of 2" channel (left over from my radiator mounts) and welded them to the frame:

drilled holes in the hockey pucks, and put them between the the core support and the new brackets

and voila $5 hockey puck body isolators

and btw: the pucks are made of the perfect rubber to be used for body isolators
